i think its more of a future alternative... like it is now...there will always be the market of people that actually want to own a copy of something that they payed for.
actually the big difference is comparing the average PS3 game with one 360 game....

i borrowed a wii from my friend cause i had to try this revolutionary game... minus the graphics and different controller (obviously), it was the same thing as mario 64 that i played 10 years ago
mario galaxy was game of the year... back in 1996 when it first came out...no innovation, same game as 11 years ago...same game as super mario bros. nintendo has lost touch with gamers they dont deserve any awards, all they care about is money and how many Wiis and DSs they can sell.
you described exactly why it is selling so well, it is for non videogamers, a party machine like a 21st century board game, the whole family can enjoy... which is why the gamers community isnt quite as crazy about it, and the game sales prove that....when people buy a wii they get wii sports, wii play, guitar hero, and maybe mario galaxy...the only games that sell well.
First thing i noticed about CoD4 was that the graphics were not that great, idk how they think it has the best graphics... imo thats a battle of epic proportions between ratchet and clank, uncharted, and bioshock.
and their GotY awards are retarded/flawed... thats the most boring platform goty i have ever seen...CoD4 on PS3, 360, and PC... when you're calling it GotY on 3 platforms, at that point its time to think... HMMMMM? maybe we make a multiplatform game goty award? and al...

i refuse to vote when i look at "best of platform" awards and my only choices include 4 of the 5 choices to be multiplatform games....for the 360... no mass effect or bioshock?....for PS3... no uncharted? UTII? Ratchet?
although i agree with their choices... i dont really look at NY times as a credible source for video games.

i highly doubt Bioware will port mass effect to the PS3 or MS will let that happen... as they say in that video, the fan base is on the 360 like with ratchet and clank, it's fanbase is on the PS3...maybe an internal studio of EA will port it, but i dont think the return would be good enough fro them, but ya never know... and micheal patcher is just an analyst...he guesses and can be wrong (most of the time)... kinda like how he said ea was gonna finish buying out ubisoft
im not a fan of god of war personally, but 2008 is gonna be huge for the PS3....and maybe ill give it another chance too, cause i wasnt a huge fan of ratchet and clank last gen, but love the new one on PS3.

Edit: why would Fox and Warner go to HD DVD exclusive, both were already on board with bluray (had facilities for Blu) and Blu sells better with like ~60/40 in favor of blu according to nielson... and blu arrived later than hd dvd...unless it was a bluff to get a payoff from BDA, which if rumors of a payoff are true, it worked.
